Q: How well does the Maxx-Com tune?
A: Once connected to any reasonable antenna radiator, your Maxx-Com unit will tune the installation to less than 1.5:1 VSWR. (That is 5% reflected power) Most installations actually tune to perfectly flat, or 1:1 VSWR. (0% reflected power) We will be available to provide technical assistance so that you may achieve the best matching installation. Anything less than 1.5:1 VSWR allows modern transistorized power amplifiers to reach full output without any harmful effect on the solid-state components.

Q: What support can I expect during the installation process?
A: The installation and operation of Maxx-Com Tuners is relatively simple. Besides the detailed instructions included with each unit, help is only an email or phone call away. We can assist you with any installation or operational question, clearly and politely.

Q: How can anything as small as a Maxx-Com really work?
A: A. Miniaturization was accomplished by a unique design concept that permits circuits to do multiple tasks. Also, rather than electronically measuring the necessary matching combinations to tune a specific frequency to an existing antenna, the Maxx-Com design simply allows the RF to choose the one resonant circuit from the many presented. If you’ve ever constructed a multi-band dipole antenna with a single coax feed line, you know that the RF selects the one pair of radiators upon reaching the correct frequency range. A computer is not required to direct the RF, it just knows. That is exactly how the Maxx-Com works.

Q: Are there any special installation requirements?
A: Yes. Upon installation, make sure to use the Maxx-Com-supplied Coax-Seal to the PL-259/SO-239 coax connection on the bottom of the Maxx-Com unit. Should water and contaminants ever enter the connection, degradation of efficiency will ordinarily occur. There are no other special requirements, however, should you desire confirmation of any unusual installation, please call or email us for a free and courteous consultation.

Q: Do you really guarantee the MAXX-COM for five full years?
A: Absolutely. Having a nineteen year history and more than 15,000 installations world wide, we are sure your Maxx-Com will work as new for at least five years. In fact, our original 1983 models are sometimes returned to the factory for refurbishing, wherein we only need to repaint and re-label the units to fully restore them. The electronic circuitry is unaffected by vibration, corrosion, or age. No other radio component is as durable as a Maxx-Com.

Q: Why do some Hams, who have never used a Maxx-com, denigrate it?
A: A. Isn't it strange that the only people criticizing Maxx-Com tuners are the same folks who have never used one. Like all revolutionary ideas, this incredible antenna tuning breakthrough must withstand ridicule and rejection, not because it doesn't work exactly as advertised, but because it is too startling, effective, small, simple, foolproof and inexpensive to be generally believable. Don't be misled by misguided ridicule, try one for yourself and then welcome to the Maxx-Com Family.

Q: OK, but what if my antenna becomes damaged or somehow shorted out?
A: Maxx-Com is designed to totally protect your radio equipment in case of an antenna malfunction. The Maxx-Com tuner will continually adjust even to the point of a totally shorted or open antenna situation. Maxx-Com is fail-safe.

Q: Can I run a 150 watt Maxx-Com on 200 watts from my radio?
A: Maxx-Com makes numerous models specifically for different application and power levels. Please ascertain your application and operating power levels then select the equivalent Maxx-Com model.
For example: 1. If you need a tuner for a portable 150 watt radio system, consider using either our Miniature model or our 200 watt Military-Commercial model. The Miniature model is smaller and lighter but the Military-Commercial model covers a greatly expanded frequency range. Both will handle the 150 watt power level. 2. If you are putting a 100-150 watt marine/ham radio onboard a boat select Marine model (M-150) for the installation. The Marine model is specifically designed for the marine environment and marine installation. 3. Shoreside at the base station you will find a Military-Commercial model of the correct power level for your installation. If you run high power (such as a “California Kilowatt”) please consider our 2000 watt models.
